PIQUA BOYS LOSE 5-4 IN EXTRA INNINGS...

STORY BY ROB KISER - PIQUA DAILY CALL
VANDALIA - There must have been something in the air Wednesday night in Vandalia.

The Piqua softball team wasn't the only one working overtime. The Piqua baseball team went 10 innings before suffering a heartbreaking 5-4 loss to a Butler team coming off a win over Northmont.

Piqua had taken a 2-0 lead in the third inning. Justin Jennings and Taylor Gertner walked and Logan Rasor brought them both home with a double.

After Vandalia-Butler tied it with single runs in the third and fourth, the Indians took a 4-2 lead in the fifth. Kiel Feeser singled and Andy Ritter pinch-ran for him. Cole Selsor reached when his bunt was misplayed.

A errant pickoff throw allowed Ritter to score and Selsor came around to score on a Willie Monbeck single.

Butler would tie the game with two runs in the sixth inning and neither team would score again until the Aviators won it in the 10th inning.

Taylor Gertner pitched the first six innings for Piqua, striking out seven and walking two. Gaaj Meyer went the rest of the way, striking out one. They combined on a six-hitter.

Monbeck was 2-for-4 with a triple for the game.

The Indians will travel to Springfield North today.
