PIQUA DROPS THIRD STRAIGHT......

STORY BY ROB KISER - PIQUA DAILY CALL
The Piqua-Northwestern baseball game had a little bit of everything, before the Warriors left with an 11-5 win over the Indians.

In a game played in wet conditions, there was a balk when a pitcher slipped coming to the plate. There was a ground ball where the batter didn’t run, but reached base when the throw was wild.

And maybe the most amazing stat was Piqua’s five-run fourth inning to tie the game, despite the Indians not having a hit.

Not only did Piqua score five runs without a hit in the game, they also left 10 runners on base as Northwestern pitchers Jadon Jenkins and Drew McEnany (the nephew of former Reds pitcher Will McEnany) combined to walk 10 and hit two batters, while the Warriors also commited three errors.

Amazingly, the Indians had runners in scoring positions in every inning.

“We just couldn’t get the big hit when we needed it,” Piqua coach Chris Barr said. “We definitely had our chances.”

Gaaj Meyer started the game and gave up five runs in two-plus innings, before he was relieved by Kiel Feeser in the third. Feeser went the rest of the way and combined on a 15-hitter, striking out three, walking three and hitting a batter.

“Gaaj (Meyer) is going to get better as he gets experience,” Barr said. “He really battled out there tonight. Kiel (Feeser) came in and really pitched well.”

Piqua will return to action Monday, hosting Fairborn at Hardman Field.
