PIQUA FALLS 3-1 TO SIDNEY...

STORY BY ROB KISER - PIQUA DAILY CALL
It could have easily been a shutout for Logan Rasor against one of the most potent batting orders in the Dayton area Monday night at Hardman Field.

The Piqua righthander limited Sidney to four hits. But, Sidney scored on a double steal in the first inning and added two unearned runs in a 3-1 victory over the Indians.

Rasor struck out six, while walking just one.

Untimely errors and the lack of timely hits continued to haunt the Indians, as Cory Echols allowed just three hits over six innings, before Joe Engle pitched the seventh.

In the first, singles by Spencer Rickert and Engle gave Sidney runners on the corners with two outs. Engle got in a rundown and Piqua couldn't make the tag until Rickert had crossed the plate.

Piqua had a chance to tie the game in the second, when Shea Selsor was hit by a pitch and Kyle Selover reached when his bunt was misplayed.

But, the Indians could not even get a runner to third. On a bunt right back to the pitcher, Selsor was forced at third and a strikeout and fly out ended the rally.

Three Piqua errors allowed Sidney to plate a run without a hit in the fourth inning.

Sidney made it 3-0 in the sixth. Brad Yinger tripled on a ball Kyle Selover nearly made a diving catch on.

With two outs, it appeared a ground ball would end the inning, but it was misplayed, allowing Yinger to cross the plate.

Piqua answered in the home sixth. After Willie Monbeck reached on an earror, Selover delivered a clutch two-out double to score Monbeck.

Taylor Gertner and Rasor also had hits for the Indians.

Piqua will play at Vandalia-Butler Wednesday. The game with Springfield North, rained out earlier this season, will be played Thursday. The JV game is at Hardman Field, while the varsity will travel to Springfield North.
