PIQUA POUNDS WAYNE, 10-2...
STORY BY ROB KISER - PIQUA DAILY CALL
The Piqua baseball team got the week off to a jump start with a 10-2 win over GWOC power Wayne Monday at Hardman Field.
"There is no question this is a huge win for us," Piqua coach Chris Barr said. "Not only is it a big win, it gets the week off to a great start. We have Centerville Wednesday, who is a lot like Wayne, and Northmont Friday."
Piqua wasted no time setting the tone. The Indians plated seven runs in the first two innings to jump out to a 7-2 lead.
Taylor Gertner, with relief help from Kiel Feeser and the defense took care of the rest.
The duo combined on a five-hitter, striking out three and walking two.
Gertner helped himself at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double and one run scored.
Shea Selsor was 2-for-3 with two RBI and a double. Justin Jennings was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBI and Josh Lentz was 1-for-4 with three RBI.
Piqua will look to ride that momentum into Wednesday's game at Centerville.
