INDIANS WIN SEASON OPENER...

STORY BY ROB KISER - PIQUA DAILY CALL
The Piqua basketball team wasted no time making a statement Tuesday night in the season opener, rolling to a 68-40 victory over Springfield North.

The Indians trailed 6-5 when Piqua coach Marcus Bixler called timeout with 4:15 remaining in the first quarter, but later went on a 13-0 run to take a 25-9 lead midway through the second quarter.

After that it was all Piqua as the Indians cruised to a 68-40 win.

Dan Wilson scored 17 of his game-high 20 points in the second half, including 13 in the third quarter. Most of the points came in transition, including several steals.

Reed added 11 points to the attack, Justin Hemm scored 10 and David Rolf scored eight points in the first half and pulled down 13 rebounds for the game.

Piqua was 30 of 56 from the floor for 54 percent and five of 11 from the line for 45 percent.

North won the battle of the boards 33-28, but had 22 turnovers to Piqua’s 12.

Piqua will return to action Friday, hosting Beavercreek.
