PIQUA BEATS SIDNEY FOR SECOND TIME THIS SEASON...

STORY BY ROB KISER - PIQUA DAILY CALL
SIDNEY — The Piqua boys basketball team wasn’t going to have the season end this way.

And the seniors certainly had too much pride for the 1-6 stretch they went through, capped by a 22-point loss to Springfield South Tuesday, be the way they were remembered.

And Sidney was the unlucky victims of a rejuvenated Piqua squad Friday, as the Indians rolled to a 75-48 victory in its most complete performance of the year.

“We were embarrassed against Springfield South,” senior David Rolf said. “We knew we were better than that. We have worked hard in practice the last couple of days. We want to finish this season strong.”

David Rolf had a monster game inside with 20 points and 15 rebounds, including 13 points and eight rebounds in the opening half.

Justin Hemm had a season high 20 points and added five steals, while holding Sidney’s leading scorer Brad Yinger to one point. Hemm also kept Yinger out of double digits in the first meeting.

Wes Reed was solid with 12 points and Dan Wilson got back into the flow with 10 points and also tipped a couple offensive rebounds to his teammates. Wilson had taken just two shots in his previous eight quarters.

Cedric Wright added seven points in his second start of the season, giving the Indians five players contributing in the scoring column, a balance Piqua has needed.

Piqua was 29 of 54 from the floor for 54 percent and 15 of 23 from the line for 65 percent.

Piqua won the battle of the boards 35-24 and had 13 turnovers to Sidney’s 19.

Now the Indians have a week to prepare for double weekend, host Vandalia-Butler Friday and traveling to Celina Saturday.
