INDIANS EVEN RECORD WITH WIN OVER NEWTON...

STORY BY ROB KISER - PIQUA DAILY CALL
The Piqua boys soccer team evened its record at 1-1-1 Saturday with a 2-0 victory over Newton.

“It was really a sloppily played game on both sides,” Piqua coach Chad Haemmerle said. “We were fortunate to come away with a win.”

Brian Langston and Kory Yohey continue to be an explosive combination, with each recording one goal and one assist in the first half.

“We have had them on top together the last couple games,” Haemmerle said. “They work really well together.”

Newton missed on several 1v1 opportunities in the early going.

“That was fortunate for us,” Haemmerle said. “Tommy (Holfinger) was able to make some good stops. They had two breakaways and he was able to keep the game tied 0-0. That was early in the game, so that would have been big.”

Holfinger finished with 10 saves.

Piqua will play at Springfield North today, as part of a girls/boys doubleheader.
