INDIANS HANG TOUGH AGAINST SPRINGBORO...
STORY BY ROB KISER - PIQUA DAILY CALL
Things didn’t get any easier for the Piqua boys soccer team Thursday night when they traveled to Springboro for a GWOC crossover game.
“They are probably one of the top four teams in the Miami Valley,” Piqua coach Chad Haemmerle said. “They beat Wayne earlier this year.”
So, the Indians 3-0 loss was a pretty good effort. Piqua trailed just 1-0 at halftime.
“We played with them for most of the game,” Haemmerle said. “But, losing is never going to be acceptable. We just have to find a way to do a little more and put the ball in the back of the net.”
Piqua keeper Tommy Holfinger had nine saves.
“They (Springboro) didn’t get a lot of shots,” Haemmerle said. “But, they got some great looks where we just had a little breakdown here or there. Good teams are going to finish on those. They got some real quality shots.
“Good teams are going to score at least one goal. We just have to find a way to put the ball in the net.”
Piqua, 2-4-1, will face another challenge Tuesday, when the Indians host Northmont in the GWOC North opener for both teams.
