INDIANS DROP HARD-FOUGHT GAME TO NORTHMONT...
STORY BY ROB KISER - PIQUA DAILY CALL
Chad Haemmerle knows the Piqua boys soccer team is going through a tough part of the schedule.
And he knows his squad is giving him everything they got.
But, he also knows the Indians need to find a way to start winning … and do it immediately.
“We are 2-5-1 now,” Haemmerle said. “We just have to find a way to start winning games and it has to start now. There is no time. We just have to start winning games.”
The Indians faced another tough opponent Wednesday, when Northmont visited Wertz Stadium.
The T-Bolts came out on top 3-0.
The scoring started with Jake Henderson eluding a Piqua tackle attempt and having just enough of an opening to put the ball in the back of the net from the left side at the 31:35 mark of the first half.
Blake Beamer then scored the T-Bolts final two goals.
The first came with 10:20 remaining in the first half and the second came with 27:32 remaining in the game.
Both came on 2-on-1s.
“They just beat us (on the two plays),” Haemmerle said. “Good teams are going to score in those situations.”
For Piqua, the story was a similar one. The Indians just didn’t give themselves enough good scoring opportunities. Kory Yohey just missed heading a ball into the goal late in the first half.
Brian Langston created two opportunities in the second half, but got taken down on one and got held when it appeared he might have a breakaway on another.
Haemmerle was pleased with the effort.
“We definitely played for 80 minutes tonight,” he said. “We had kids hustling on loose balls in the final two minutes. And that is a credit to them. We had good effort tonight.”
The Indians will play at Graham Saturday.
