LAY-OFF HURTS INDIANS IN LOSS TO SIDNEY...
STORY BY ROB KISER - PIQUA DAILY CALL
The Piqua boys soccer team will have played one game in 15 days when it takes the field next Tuesday against Vandalia-Butler.
Which is not the best of circumstances.
The Indians, after eight days off, lost 3-0 to Sidney Tuesday night at Wertz Stadium.
“Usually, you don’t want that much time off,” Piqua coach Chad Haemmerle said. “But, we really needed it to get refocused. We are determined to win out, so we need to get focused.”
Sidney scored two first-half goals and added one in the second half.
“They looked like a team that is looking to win the GWOC North,” Haemmerle said. “We played hard for 80 minutes. We had a couple breakdowns that gave them some easy looks that led to two goals.
“You can’t do that. I am not taking anything away from Sidney. They played well. We had some opportunities on offense. We weren’t able to finish on them.”
Piqua will take a record of 5-7-1 overall and 1-2-0 into the Butler game.
“We want to win out and have a winning record,” Haemmerle said.
