PIQUA DISAPPOINTED IN LOSS TO BUTLER...

STORY BY ROB KISER - PIQUA DAILY CALL
VANDALIA — It kind of summed up the night for the Piqua boys soccer team Tuesday night at Vandalia.

With Butler holding a 1-0 lead, the Aviators added a second goal with just 10 seconds remaining in the first half and went to a 2-0 victory over the Indians in GWOC North action.

“That was disappointing,” Piqua coach Chad Haemmerle said. “Any time you give up a goal right before the half like that is tough. It is a disappointing loss. At the same time we had some opportunities we didn’t finish on. When that happens, the result is going to be exactly what it was.”

The Indians played Butler even in the final 40 minutes.

“It is tough to come back from giving up a goal like that,” Haemmerle said. “But, we did that.  We came out with a lot of energy in the second half. But, we came up empty on goals. We have to find a way to put the ball in the net.”

The Indians, 5-8-1 overall and 1-3-0 in the GWOC North, will play at Miamisburg Thursday before hosting Miami East Saturday to close the regular season.

Piqua opens tournament play Tuesday, hosting Troy at 7 p.m.
