PIQUA DROPS ELEVENTH GAME TO WAPAK...
STORY BY ROB KISER - PIQUA DAILY CALL
TFor the better part of the first half, the Piqua girls basketball team played right with Wapakoneta Thursday night.
But, the Lady Redskins used a 16-2 run to close the first half and open a 27-13 lead and went on to beat Piqua 62-35 in non-conference action.
“They were able to get a number of quick baskets on us,” Piqua coach Brad Allen said. “The thing that was happening is we we were working hard to get a turnover or a stop on defense but then we would turn right around and turn it over and give them an easy basket.”
Up to the middle of the second quarter, it was anybody’s game.
Kayle Quinter had 10 points and 14 rebounds for the Lady Indians. Miranda Baker also scored 10 points.
Piqua was 14 of 52 from the floor for 27 percent and five of eight from the line for 63 percent.
Piqua won the battle of the boards 32-27, but had 27 turnovers to the Lady Redskins’ 14.
The Lady Indians will host Troy Saturday, with the JV game starting at 11:30 a.m.
