PIQUA FALLS SHORT AGAINST FAIRBORN...
STORY BY ROB KISER - PIQUA DAILY CALL
It was not what Piqua girls soccer coach Rob Alexander wanted to see from his team Wednesday night, when Fairborn visited Wertz Stadium for the Lady Indians home opener.
The Lady Indians battled valiantly before suffering a 1-0 loss in a GWOC crossover game.
“I wasn’t happy with what I saw to tell you the truth,” Piqua coach Rob Alexander said. “We are just not playing together right now.”
Piqua had several opportunities in front of the Fairborn goal in the first half, but the Lady Indians were unable to finish. At the same time, Piqua gave Fairborn some opportunities they shouldn’t have had, but keeper Lucy Brown and the defense kept Fairborn scoreless in the opening half.
The only goal in the game came with 15:00 remaining.
“I thought Lucy (Brown) really played well,” Alexander said. “The goal they scored, there was nothing Lucy could do.
“The midfielders allowed them a shot from 20 yards and they arched it up high, where Lucy couldn’t reach it.
“I think our defense played well. But, we are really struggling on offense. We have to find a way to work together.”
Piqua, 2-3-1 will host Springboro on Monday at Wertz Stadium.
