PIQUA TAKES "TWO STEPS" FORWARD DESPITE LOSS...

STORY BY ROB KISER - PIQUA DAILY CALL
CLAYTON — The light is definitely shining brightly at the end of the tunnel for the Piqua girls soccer team.

The Lady Indians battled Northmont much closer than the final score indicated in a 4-0 loss.

“If we took a step forward (against Springboro), we took two steps forward tonight,” Piqua coach Rob Alexander said. “The girls really played well.”

The Indians got 12 shots on goal, which has not been a typical output in past games against the T-Bolts.

“All the Piqua-Northmont games I have been at,” Alexander said, “I don’t remember very many games where we got 12 shots on goal.

“I told you the other night, we were working on our offense and playing together.  We are seeing  some of the things we wanted to see.”

And Alexander was also pleased with the defensive effort.

“Even though we gave up four goals, I thought the defense played really well,” Alexander said. “We handled the turf really well.

“In fact, it worked to our advantage. It speeds up the game and we have pretty good team speed.”

It was 2-0 at halftime and Northmont took advantage of keeper Laura Deal being injured midway through the second half.

Deal stopped a penalty kick in the first half.

Now Piqua, 2-5-1,  will host Graham Saturday with the JV starting at 11 a.m.
