PIQUA TIES GRAHAM IN SCORELESS AFFAIR...

STORY BY ROB KISER - PIQUA DAILY CALL
On Saturday the Piqua girls soccer team took on Graham at Wertz Stadium with the game ending in 0-0 tie.

The Lady Falcons were 6-1-1 coming into the match having defeated Sidney and Tecumseh in the past two weeks.

Graham is averaging three plus goals per game while on average allowing less than one goal per game.

The Lady Indians came into the match having played two tough games earlier in the week against Springboro on Monday and Northmont on Wednesday.

The Piqua defense was stingy, only allowing a few shots in the first half and completely shutting Graham down in the second half.

The defense, anchored by senior goalie Lucy Brown with seniors Kristen Magoteaux, and Betsy Stine, junior Bethany Alexander and sophomores Brittany Diehl and Abbie Obringer did a solid job of keeping the Lady Falcons in check all day long.

On the offensive side, the Lady Indians had their first chance in the first thirty seconds of the match with a shot going just over the top of the crossbar.

Piqua had a number of additional opportunities including two near goal shots but could not capitalize.  At the end of the day the score was tied at zero.

In JV action, the Lady Indians also defeated Graham 1-0 with Julia Crawford getting the lone goal for the Indians on an assist from Ashleigh Vallieu.  Maddie Campbell had five saves in goal for the Lady Indians.

The Lady Indians will be back in action on Wednesday, as they travel to Troy.  Game times are 5:30 and 7:30.
