PIQUA STRUGGLES IN LOSS TO TROY...

COVERAGE PROVIDED BY THE PIQUA DAILY CALL
Piqua didn't give itself many scoring opportunities against Troy Wednesday night and the result was a 7-0 defeat at the hands of its rivals at Troy Memorial Stadium.

Piqua’s only scoring chance of the night came early in the first half as Alexandra Jess fired off a shot on a breakaway, but Troy goalie Liz Patrick dove to her right to make the save.

Meanwhile, Troy had 18 shots on goal, scoring on seven of the opportunities.

“We just didn’t show up defensively,” Piqua coach Rob Alexander said. “They just sliced and diced us all night. They (Troy) had 18 shots and seven goals — that’s pretty effective shooting. We just gave them too many open looks.”

The Lady Indians fell behind 2-0 before they could even get their own shot off.

After Troy’s second goal, Alexander made a move in the goal by pulling Lucy Brown and using her as a defender while sending in Laura Deal as keeper.

“I didn’t pull her because of the two goals — I needed her as a good defender in the field,” Alexander said.

The change couldn't stop the Lady Trojans as five more points went on the board by game's end.

Piqua has a week to regroup before Trotwood comes to town next Wednesday.
