PIQUA GETS PHYSICAL IN TIE WITH MIAMISBURG...

COVERAGE PROVIDED BY THE PIQUA DAILY CALL
The Piqua girls soccer team was matched up against a physical, aggressive Miamisburg team Monday night, and the Lady Indians matched them every step of the way.

The Lady Indians got a first-half goal, before the Vikings got the equalizer late in the game in a 1-1 tie at Wertz Stadium.

“That is the first time we have every played Miamisburg, where the result wasn’t a loss,” Piqua coach Rob Alexander said. “We would have liked to have had the win, but we will take the tie.”

Alex Jess got Piqua on  the board on a cross from Brittany Diehl. At the same time, Lucy Brown, who would finish with 15 saves, had some simpressive ones in the first half and had to come back from a violent collision.

Piqua, 4-7-3, will host Vandalia-Butler Wednesday and Miami East Saturday before opening Division I tournament play at Northmont Monday.

“We are ready for that (Northmont),” Alexander said. “We have two more home games before that to play.”

The Piqua JVs won 1-0. Brittany McCrea scored the goal on an assist from Julia Crawford.
