PIQUA'S SEASON ENDS AGAINST 'BOLTS...

COVERAGE PROVIDED BY THE PIQUA DAILY CALL
CLAYTON — With Piqua keeper Lucy Brown frustrating a heavily favored Northmont team, the Lady Indians stayed right with the T-Bolts in the first 40 minutes.

But, eventually Northmont’s depth took its toll in a 6-1 victory Monday night in the Division I tournament action.

“Lucy (Brown) just had a phenomenal game,” Piqua coach Rob Alexander said. “She had 17 saves on the night. The kids really played hard.”

The game was scoreless for most of the first half.

“It was 1-0 at halftime,” Alexander said. “They didn’t score until the final two minutes of the first half.”

But, Northmont’s depth and experience began to take its toll in the second half.

“We are a nicked up team right now,” Alexander said. “And Northmont has gotten healthy since the first time we played them.

“They had a couple key seniors back, who didn’t play the first time we played them.”

Northmont opened a 4-0 lead before Piqua got on the board.

Brittany Diehl scored off an Alex Jess assist.

But, Brown was injured with five minutes remaining and Northmont ended up with a 6-1 win.

Hillary Fry added one save for the Lady Indians.

“I am really proud of the girls and the effort they gave all season,” Alexander said.

Piqua finished the season at 4-9-1.
