PIQUA FINISHES 11TH IN GWOC PREVIEW...
STORY BY ROB KISER - PIQUA DAILY CALL
ITHACA The Piqua boys golf team finished 11th in the GWOC Preview Thursday at Beechwood Golf Course.
The Indians carded a 339 total and were led Ben Gover. The senior tied for ninth overall with a 75, despite a rocky start.
“Ben was three over par after three or four holes,” Barr said. “He got some bad breaks early and did a great job recovering. On any given day, Ben can shoot even par or even a few strokes under par.”
Other Piqua scores were Kiel Feeser 86, Brody Fox 88, Jordan Fashner 90, David Duer 94, Kyle Brumbaugh 94.
For Fashner, just a sophomore, it was his first experience at this high of a level.
“For him to be a sophomore and be in that atmosphere for the first time, to shoot 90 was great,” Barr said. “That is very encouraging.”
Overall, Barr was a little disappointed with Piqua’s 339 total.
“I knew we weren’t going to shoot 300 or 310,” Barr said. “I thought we would do a little better. The kids were disappointed. They weren’t satisfied and that is the important thing. The good thing is it is the pre-season and we have the chance to improve on that.”
Piqua plays at Greenville Country Club Monday in the Greenville Invitational.
Team scores: Miamisburg 290, Vandalia-Butler 302, Centerville 304, Springboro 305, Troy 309, Sidney 314, Beavercreek 317, Northmont 325, Wayne 330, Xenia 334, Piqua 339, Fairborn 348, Lebanon 351, Fairmont 357, Springfield North 361, Trotwood 437.

PIQUA DEFEATS URBANA...
STORY BY ROB KISER - PIQUA DAILY CALL
The Piqua boys golf team won its first match of the season Tuesday, defeating Urbana 176-212 at Urbana Country Club.
Junior Brody Fox led the Indians and was medalist with a 40.
“Brody (Fox) really played well,” Piqua coach Chris Barr said. “That is a really good score for the course and where they had some of the pins.”
Other Piqua scores were Kiel Feeser 44, Ben Gover 46, David Duer 46, Jordan Fashner 50 and Kyle Brumbaugh 52.
“We won the match, which was the important thing,” Barr said. “We just have to quit letting the little things bother us. It is just a matter of maturity. But, it is a tough course and there were some tough pin positions.”
Katie Mowery will play in the girls GWOC preview today at Beechwood, while the Piqua boys will make that trip on Thursday.

A BEAUTIFUL DAY ON THE COURSE...
STORY BY ROB KISER - PIQUA DAILY CALL
It was a beautiful day for golf at Piqua Country Club.
And the golfers playing in the 21st annual Homan Memorial golf tournament were the winners in more ways than one.
As always, the Homan family ran a tournament that is at the top of the list.
“They (the Homan Family) do a tremendous job,” first-year coach Chris Barr said. “They treat everyone so great. This is a tournament schools are fighting to get into. And anytime you get a chance to play at Piqua Country Club, it is a good day.”
Piqua senior Ben Gover got the season off to a great start, carding a 74, which included a 33 on the front nine. Gover’s round could have been even lower, had it not been for three 3-putts on the back nine.
“The greens on the front nine were a little slower,” Gover said. “I wish I had played a little better on the back nine, but it was a great way to start the season.”
And unlike his junior year, Gover had a full summer to prepare for the fall season. During the spring of sophomore year, Gover suffered an ACL injury and spent that summer rehabbing.
“I had a full summer to play and get ready for the season,” Gover said.
Piqua finished 11th with a 343, losing a fifth-man tiebreaker to Greenville.
“Our score was a little higher than I hoped,” Barr said. “I was hoping for 330, 335. But, the good thing is these guys are only going to get better. When you start out the season playing Piqua Country Club, all the other courses are going to seem easier.”
