A TURNING POINT FOR PIQUA...

STORY BY ROB KISER - PIQUA DAILY CALL
The past two tournaments could be a real turning point for the Piqua boys golf team.

And while they played equally well both days, their finish in the team standings was very different.

Piqua played in the Fairmont Invitational with most of the best teams from the Dayton and Cincinnati area at NCR Monday.

So, while they didn’t finish high in the team standings with a 338, it was still a good day for the Indians.

“This was some real elite teams,” Piqua coach Chris Barr said. “These were all the best teams from Dayton and Cincinnati.”

Ben Gover turned in another impressive performance, carding an even-par 70.

“Ben played a great round,” Barr said. “He tied for fourth in an incredibly strong field. He is really playing well.”

Body Fox carded an 88, David Duer shot 89, Kiel Feeser had 91 and Kyle Brumbaugh and Jordan Fashner added 93 and 98 respectively.

“I really do think this could be a turning point,” Barr said.

That’s because Piqua was coming off a hardware performance Saturday, finishing second in the Nordquist Invitational at Miami Shores with a 316 total.

“The kids told me that was the first trophy they had won,” Barr said. “So, I was really happy for them.”

Piqua scores were Ben Gover 74, Kiel Feeser 76, Brody Fox 80, David Duer 86, Jordan Fashner 94, Kyle Brumbaugh 96.

“Ben and Kiel both had great rounds,” Barr said. “Brody Fox played better and so did David Duer. We had four very good rounds, which was good to see.”

A big week continues for the Indians.

They will host Greenville Wednesday, play Northmont at Larch Tree Thursday and play Tipp City at Troy Country Club Friday.
