INDIANS WIN FINAL HOME MATCH..

STORY BY ROB KISER - PIQUA DAILY CALL
It was the final home golf match for the seniors on the Piqua boys golf team, four who were in action Thursday at Echo Hills.

And while the last two matches have not been what they hoped for, the Indians still have some unfinished business within reach over the next two weeks.

“It is hard to believe,” Piqua senior Kiel Feeser said about it being his final match at Echo Hills.

Fellow senior Ben Gover also found it hard to believe that he had just played his final regular season match.

“I was just talking about that with Kiel (Feeser) at school today,” Gover said. “We want to play well at the GWOC and we know we can get out of sectionals if we play well.”

Which is what this season has been all about.

“If we can play well at the GWOC, that would be great preparation heading into the sectionals,” Feeser. “Ben (Gover) and I both have a good chance to be first team (All-GWOC North). That would be a great accomplishment.”

They continued towards that goal with two-over par 38s on the back nine at Echo Hills Thursday. In fact, they beat the two Troy players they played with by two shots. But, Troy’s consistency would win out in a 161-171 victory for the Trojans.

“We just need to be more consistent,” Piqua coach Chris Barr said. “I am not usually into individual stuff. But, Ben (Gover) and Kiel (Feeser) have both put themselves in position to be first team all conference. That would be a great accomplishment.”

Rounding out Piqua’s scores were David Duer 47, Brody Fox 48, Kyle Brumbaugh 51, Gaaj Meyer 54.

While the boys will be playing in the postseason GWOC Thursday, Lady Indians Stacey Green, Shelby Hayes and Katie Mowery will playing in the girls postseason GWOC Wednesday.

And they will be playing a shorter course than they are used to.
