A seventh-inning rally came up short at Hardman Field Friday night, as the Piqua baseball team lost 6-4 to Greenville to split the season series.

The game started in the bottom of the first with Piqua leading 1-0 (from the suspended game at Greenville Thursday).

Piqua quickly made it 2-0 when the game resumed, as Tyler Davis scored when Jake Causey reached on an error.

But, Greeville four runs in the fourth and two in the seventh to go in front 6-2, before Piqua threatened to tie it in the home seventh.

Brandon Wright and Brad Jess walked and Trenton Hemm singled to load the bases with no outs.

Luke Schneider, who ran for Wright, scored on Tyler Davis’ fielder’s choice.

Taylor Huebner singled to agains load the bases with two outs.

A passed ball allowed Hemm to score and put the tying runs on second and third, but Greenville got a fly out to end it.

Hemm was 2-for-3 for the Indians, while Andy Draving, Aaron Christy and Taylor Huebner combined on a five-hitter, striking out 10 and walking six.

Piqua will play at Troy Monday, before hosting the Trojans Tuesday.
