PIQUA GETS ANOTHER BIG WIN...
STORY BY ROB KISER - PIQUA DAILY CALL
BROOKVILLE - The Piqua softball team continued a big week Tuesday.
After getting an important GWOC North win over Sidney Monday, the Lady Indians knocked off the fifth-ranked Division III team in the state Wednesday, recording a 1-0 victory over Brookville in a game that will end up raising quite a bit of money for cancer.
"The bases and the ball were pink," Piqua coach Rick Claprood said. "Brookville wore pink uniforms. It was really well done. The two teams have raised $300 so far. We decided to keep it going until Friday."
And the Lady Indians manufactured the only run of the game and were rock solid on defense behind Tina Byrd, who hurled another gem.
Piqua scored the game's only run in the third inning.
Miranda Baker reached on an error, stole second when Brookville attempted to pick her off, took third on a delayed steal and scored when the throw to third was wild.
Lacey Petry had two hits for the Indians, while Kari Black, Nikke Payne and Jessica Wilhelm all had one.
Brookville had just one hit, a double, as Byrd struck out eight and did not walk a batter.
Piqua will look for a third straight big win tonight at Vandalia-Butler in GWOC North action.
