PIQUA TURNS UP THE HEAT ON GREENVILLE...
STORY BY ROB KISER - PIQUA DAILY CALL
GREENVILLE Monday night’s girls volleyball play in a sweltering hot Greenville High School gymnasium certainly didn’t seem like it a Senior Night in early October.
At least the weather didn’t seem like it.
But for a surging Lady Indian team, fourth-seeded in the upcoming Division I sectional, it was a chance to match up with the squad seeded third for next week’s event, Greenville.
And on Senior Night in the Treaty City, Piqua made a statement of strength, moving to 11-6 on the campaign with a 25-15, 25-20, 25-17 victory.
“The girls have been playing well, and they did tonight,” said a smiling Piqua head coach Chris Davis.
He had good reason to smile.
Even with the unusual delay between the junior varsity and varsity matches, the six Piqua seniors received a flower from one of the Greenville senior players, the Indians took command at the outset, and never really gave up the momentum in around 60 minutes of play, in rolling to the win.
To add to the circumstance was the fact that these two teams will likely face one another again, just 10 days from now, in a Division I sectional semifinal match in the Student Activities Center at Vandalia Butler High School.
