PIQUA DOWNS MIAMISBURG IN THREE...
STORY BY ROB KISER - PIQUA DAILY CALL
Just when it looked like the Piqua volleyball team might be going four games Tuesday night against Miamisburg, the Lady Indians had other ideas.
Piqua trailed 24-20 in the third game when Chelsea Hostetter finished the match with six straight points, giving the Lady Indians a 25-12, 25-19, 26-24 win over the Lady Vikings.
“We got as far down as 24-20,” Piqua coach Chris Davis said. “Chelsea went back to the service line and served six straight with her jump serve. It was looking like it was going to go four games.
“We had lost our focus a little bit. The girls stepped up at the end and decided it wasn’t going to go four games. It was great to see the way we finished off the match.”
Piqua turned in an impressive performance through the first two games.
Hostetter had three aces, three digs, one block, 24 assists and two kills; while Sara Keck had three digs, five blocks and five kills. Ashley Belisle had two aces, three digs, one block and seven kills, while Cassi Curtis had five digs, one block and five kills.
Joni Barnett had two digs, three blocks and five kills, while Kayle Quinter added five kills and two blocks.
Piqua, 3-4, will play at Fairborn Thursday.
The Piqua JVs won 25-12, 26-24, while the freshman won 25-20, 25-18.
