CONSISTENCY LEADS TO PIQUA WIN...
STORY BY ROB KISER - PIQUA DAILY CALL
You can sum up the difference in the Piqua volleyball team from earlier this season in one word.
Consistency.
Which is what the Lady Indians displayed from start to finish Thursday, beating Northmont 25-19, 25-20, 25-14 in their GWOC North opener. Vandalia-Butler defeated Troy in five games and Sidney beat Trotwood-Madison to join Piqua at 1-0 in the conference.
“Earlier in the year we were going four or five games when we didn’t need to,” Piqua senior Sara Keck said. “Now, we are going out and winning those kind of matches in three games.”
Keck led the hitters with 14 kills, two aces, two blocks and seven digs; while Belisle had five aces, seven digs, three blocks and eight kills.
Cassi Curtis had four kills and six digs; while Joni Barnett had three aces, six digs, two assists and two kills. Kayle Quinter added two kills and one dig.
Running that balanced offense was Chelsea Hostetter, who had 21 assists, six digs and one ace.
Miranda Baker led the defense with nine digs.
The Piqua JVs, 11-4, lost 19-25, 25-17, 25-19.
The freshman, 5-4, played two matches at Springfield Shawnee Wednesday. Piqua lost to Shawnee 25-18, 25-19 and defeated Ben Logan 23-25, 25-18, 25-20.
Piqua travels to Sidney Tuesday … looking to continue that consistency.
