PIQUA ADVANCES WITH SWEEP OF TROY...
STORY BY ROB KISER - PIQUA DAILY CALL
VANDALIA It had to be a ominous sight for the Troy volleyball team Saturday in a Vandalia Division I sectional final.
After dropping the first two games, the Lady Trojans were clinging to an 18-17 lead in game three when Piqua senior Sara Keck strode to the service line.
As in the past, that proved to be bad news for Troy. The powerful middle hitter served seven straight points, then finished off a 25-15, 25-22, 25-19 win over the Lady Trojans with a kill.
Piqua, 15-6, will play St. Ursula, the fifth seed in the Cincinnati sectionals, at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Nutter Center in a district title match.
“To be honest, I just wanted to make sure I got my serve in,” Keck said. “I had missed one earlier. I have a great front row when I am serving.”
Keck’s first two serves were rockets that nearly knocked the Troy passers to the floor. She had three aces in the run, Belisle had three kills and Cassi Curtis added a spike.
Chelsea Hostetter had 29 assists, 10 aces, two digs and three blocks; while Keck had five aces, 28 digs, five blocks and seven kills.
Belisle had one ace, 11 digs, four blocks and 10 kills; while Curtis had eight kills, four blocks and 10 digs.
Joni Barnett had two kills, seven digs and two blocks. Studebaker had seven digs, while Kayle Quinter added three blocks, two digs and three kills.
And in the end, Keck’s serving provided the final boost Piqua needed.
